Source and grain size
Our clinoptilolite zeolite comes from the Sheaville deposit along the Idaho and Oregon border. Full test information is shown in the photos. The granules are U.S. Standard Sieve Mesh 3-7, which produces pieces that fit through spaces of 0.25" x 0.11". This is the only size we offer.
Zeolite in the garden
Zeolite holds water and releases it as plants need it: it absorbs up to 55% of its weight in water (100 grams can hold 80 grams), which helps prevent root rot and moderate dry spells. It also stores nutrients and releases them slowly, so it pairs well with fertilizer, and unlike lime it does not break down over time.
- Mix it into soil when preparing beds.
- Line the bottom of pots to catch draining water and recover escaping nutrients.
- Line a lawn bed before laying soil to make it more efficient with water and nutrients.
It also prevents soil compaction and improves infiltration and aeration, and because it is not acidic it can buffer soil pH, reducing the need for lime.
The zeolite in a used Purrified Air filter media pack is already loaded with ammonia, the main odor chemical in cat urine and a form of nitrogen. That is why we recommend recycling used filter contents into your garden or flower pots. The odor you eliminate turns into plant food. Talk about the circle of life.
